Have you been downtown lately?

If you have....

Maybe, you stopped by one of the three new restaurants/cafe's that have opened (Brothers Deli, Breaking Grounds Cafe, The NexMex Thing)?  Maybe you had a cold beer on the plaza in front of the court house during one of Peabody Main Streets Pop-up pub events, or stopped in across the square at Brodies to cheer on the Celtics? Chances are, you took a date out to Maki Sushi for a delicious dinner, or maybe took a client to Sugarcane for lunch? I bet you got brunch at Mike and Lil's, then grabbed a slice for lunch at Downtown Pizza, or maybe a sub at Santoro's, then for dinner you probably stopped by Gallo Nero, or maybe you grabbed a late night roast beef from Bill and Bob's.

Quite possibly, you stopped by the redesigned Teresa's Boutique, and bought one of the many crafts Teresa has made, right here in Peabody! Maybe, you met a friend and strolled around one of the two public parks located in the downtown. Maybe, you caught a summer evening concert in one of those parks too?  Perhaps, you brought your children by the Creativity Lab at the Peabody Institute Library right on Main Street and created something fun with their 3D printer or recorded some tunes in their music studio? Maybe, before recording you stopped by the Peabody Music Box next door to get all your instruments working well?

Perchance, during the International Festival you ran into a neighbor and chatted while perusing Main Street checking out the different booths.  Or Maybe, during the car show on Main Street, you relived some memories admiring a 1978 mustang.

Possibly, by surprise you heard the sweet sounds of someone playing one of the public pianos placed around downtown and on Main Street, or possibly, you took an Instagram in front of one of the City sponsored painted electrical boxes, (part of the Outside the Box Mural Project)? Theres a good chance you stopped by the Farmers Market during the summer and picked up some fresh produce or grabbed a quick lunch from a vendor?

If none of this sounds familiar, then maybe you haven't been downtown lately.

Downtown Peabody is filled with wonderful little shops, delicious eateries, fun events, and beautiful green spaces, all waiting for you to explore.

Make a effort beginning today, to visit downtown Peabody and join in on the fun!

The downtown includes a fairly large area of Peabody, so for the sake of this blog post,  focused in on the Main Street area specifically (and some arterial streets).

Creative Gathering

On November 6th 2015, Opportunity Peabody held the Creative Gathering, which gave local artists the ability to voice their recommendations and concerns on being a local artist. We were provided with a ton of information on how to make creativity in Peabody more awesome. In the chart below we've compiled the answers from the three of the questions, so take a look at what you told us:

Some of your suggestions are already happening, but maybe you didn't know about them. So here are some of the highlights of what's already going on:

Here are some of the things coming in the future:

  • More special events like open mics, small concerts, and more. You requested, so stay tuned to hear about when they're coming up!
  • There is a downtown development initiative comprised of community leaders who will be developing a strong marketing plan to promote Peabody as a place to visit, featuring the arts as one of its core components.
  • ArcWorks will be developing an artists's salon to promote networking among creatives and art lovers, as well as foster some meaningful discussion about art topics.
  • We're looking at developing the Creative Yellow Pages, listing all the creative resources, businesses and creative professionals that can be distributed online and in paper to individuals and businesses who made need your services!
